160: Thro' The Wall

Number 160
Thro' The Wall
Honourable Mention

Is that how you should shorten 'through'? It just doesn't look right. Anyway, it's a Breakout clone.
This Honourable Mention was chosen simply because it was included in the Horizons pack, packed in with new Spectrums shortly after the machine's launch in 1982. As such, it was probably one of the first games most Speccy users ever played on their machine, and was intended as a demonstration of what can be achieved with Sinclair BASIC on the micro. It's a flawed version of Breakout, but it does its job admirably, showing off the machine's colour reproduction in a clean and tidy way.

Yes, it's a poor clone of Breakout, and yes, the ball comes off at 45 degree angles every time, making it almost impossible to actually finish the screen. But it's one of my earliest memories of my Speccy, and served as a nice introduction for many. Hey, I had to pick one game, so I went with (arguably) the oldest.

16K - Yes
48K - Yes
128K - 48K BASIC only
