154: Mined-Out

Mined-Out

No, it's not Minesweeper, but there are mines in it, so that's something.
You stand at one end of a minefield, and your task is to walk to the other side. You have a mine detector with you, which can tell you how many mines are on all sides of you. Based on what your detector tells you, you must deduce the location of the mines, and plot a safe route across the field, being careful not to rush it. Later in the game you can safe damsels in distress for extra points, mine spreaders drop more mines in your path, and the Bug will chase you to hurry you up.

Trust Stu Campbell to pick the old classics for his list, as this is a really fun little game. No flashy graphics here, just a tense and taxing experience. For me, the most difficult aspect is actually the controls: being forced to use 5, 6, 7 and 8 to move is not very intuitive (I'd prefer Q, A, O and P to be honest) but if you can get used to it, you'll be rewarded with a very fun game.
